Featured Member, Sal Serio

Sal Serio proudly served the United States Marine Corps in various states from 1952 – present. Sal currently holds many different titles and accomplishments including:

  • Member and Past President of the Genealogy Research Society of New Orleans

  • Member of the Jefferson Parish Genealogy Society

  • Past President of the New Orleans Business and Professional Toastmasters Club 31169

  • Member and Past President of Società Italiana di Mutua Beneficenza Beneficenza Cefaluatana (A benevolent society founded in 1887)

  • Member and Vice President of the American Italian Renaissance Foundation

  • Curator, American Italian Research Library

In the past 20 years, Sal Serio has received numerous awards, namely:

  • 2017  Presented the American Veteran Award by American Italian Culture Center on behalf of the Louisiana American Italian Renaissance Foundation

  • 2015 The Cefalutana Society created the President Salvatore J. Serio Scholarship Fund in his honor to be given to an incoming High School Senior at Cabrini High School.

  • 2014 the Jefferson Parish Council presented a Proclamation for outstanding contributions to the community as President of the Societa Italiana di Mutua Beneficenza Cefalutana from 1995 until 2014.

  • 2013 Mayor Mitch Landrieu of New Orleans, LA presented a Certificate of Recognition on his retirement as il Presendente, Societa Italiana di Mutua Beneficenza Cefalutana.

  • 2013 Paul E. Boyd Detachment #579, Marine Corps League presented an Appreciation Award for service to the Marine Corps League

  • 2012 Jefferson Genealogy Society presented their Presidential Award for Civic Activities.

  • 2012 United Daughters of the Confederacy presented their Judah P. Benjamin Award for Civic Activities.

  • 2011 U. S. Government presented a Certificate of Appreciation for Service during the Korean War.

  • 2010 State of Louisiana presented a medal for service to our country.

  • 1999 American Italian Federation of the Southeast presented their Life Time achievement Award.

  • 1998 Presented a Certificate of Recognition for service during the Cold War by the U. S. Government.

Jefferson Genealogical Society is proud to have Sal as one of their members. In recognition of his many, many accomplishments, JGS would like to award Sal Serio as their first featured member! Thank you Sal for everything you provide for genealogy and its surrounding community members.
